Villa Kitty

 Finn, the cat

This is “Finn” the latest addition to my family and other animals here in Bali. Finn was adopted from “Villa Kitty” a newly opened charity and Cat Sanctuary in Ubud, Bali.

Finn was luckier than most abandoned kittens as he was rescued by Danish vet holidaying here on the Island; Finn had been dumped and left for dead by the wayside. Thankfully, they took him along to Villa Kitty where he was nursed back to good health by Elizabeth Suttie (Henzell) and her wonderful team of vets and nurses.  As you can see from the picture he is loving every minute of their wonderful hospitality.

"Villa Kitty “Bali was founded by Elizabeth, starting life in 2009 as the 'cats & kittens section' at Bali Animal Welfare Association ,better known locally as B.A.W.A, which I have written about in previous blogs.

The aim of Villa Kitty is to care and sterilise the stray cats of Bali and to educate people about the responsibility of cat ownership. They are extremely proud of  the small but dedicated team; who support each other in positive ways to ensure the cats of Bali are no longer the "silent minority" that receive little care or attention.

Last Friday we were privileged to attend a small fund raiser courtesy of the very generous Minami Japanese Restaurant in Ubud. (http://www.minami-bali.com/). Although Minami  is a delightful Japanese venue and we were served a wonderful selection of Sushi and tropical nectar, the setting and their attentive staff managed somehow to transport me to another place as if in a quintessential English garden party, and a really lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all that attended thank you.

During the afternoon Elizabeth; who I should mention here is not only the busiest person I know but also a wonderful showman, as I don't know anyone else able, or brave enough to think, sing and talk all at the same time presented a slide show of the various guests of Villa Kitty in support of her talk about the benefits dogs and cats can bring especially to deprived children in orphanages around this Island and in child detention centres around the world.

Elizabeth went on to stress the various pressures on everyone in our troubled times and its easy for people to overlook the needs of such small creatures and their associated charities when there is so much else needed all over the world with people starving and displaced and at the mercy of the perpetrators of war.

The event raised Rp 5 million which was perfect timing for them. Lucky enough the supermarket shelves were well stocked that evening so they were able to get everything they needed.

Please visit Villa Kitty Bali on Face book and follow them for more information and photographs of their good works and how you might be able to support them, and if you have enjoyed reading any of my previous blogs please do make a donation to Villa Kitty, how ever small, as I know it will be very much appreciated.
