It has come to light that Starbucks, the worldwide chain of coffee houses, has a company policy that forces staff to leave a cold tap running behind the counter in every one of its 10,000 branches globally, which could be wasting around 20 million litres of water a day.

Astonishingly for a company that says its "green", the company allegedly claims the constant flow of water stops germs breeding in the taps.
Starbucks' tap policy came to light after a UK couple wrote to complain after spotting a tap left running at their local branch. They contacted head office, which confirmed that the taps were left on and the water was not recycled.
A spokeswoman for Starbucks said: 'We would welcome the opportunity to discuss ways to improve the policy with anyone who believes there is a way of doing that.'
