If You Are Trying To Trace A Lost Friend Or Relative - Use Google As A Notice Board

Trace lost friends or relatives faster using Google as a notice board.

You can post their name on Google by creating a free "Trace Notice" for them:

http://wikiworldbook.com/trace-lost-friends-and-relatives

Anyone checking their own name on Google will see the message (or perhaps a friend checking on another friend, who will then pass on the message). This means that you will get the widest possible audience for the fact that you are searching for that person, and you also then give them the means of contacting you (without you having to reveal your contact details to anyone).

You must be registered with us first, which is free and takes less than a minute, in order to provide the person you are looking for with a means of contacting you. They can do this without being registered by simply clicking on your profile in the Trace you have created.

Our whole site is free - we do not charge for anything. We display advertising which provides us with our revenue.

How does it work?

Its very simple - as a bare minimum all you have to do is put in the name of the person you want to find into our Trace facility and then let WikiWorldBook and Google do the rest!

Google takes the name you have given us, and in the format we give it, and displays it whenever someone searches for that person. It is estimated that on average, 50 million name searches are done a day and up to a third of all searches are people related. People regularly either Google themselves or people that they know. Using the power of the internet to get the word out that you are looking for someone and then also word of mouth, it might not be long before the person you are looking for finds out. All they have to do then is go to Google and the "Trace" that you put up will lead them back to you.

If you want to increase your chances of finding the person you are looking for, simply add more relevant information associated with that person, which will mean that your "Trace" will appear not just for the persons name, but in all sorts of other ways on Google as well.

The Three Simple Steps

1. You add the name of the person you are trying to find in the fields provided on the Trace page:

2. We then create the "Trace" which looks like this :

3. Google then creates the following "result" for the person you are looking for:-

When an interested person clicks on the result, it takes them to our site where they can find you and send you a message (without you having to reveal your contact details).

The example shown is for the first Trace ever registered. The Trace shows as the 3rd result in a Google search for Ken Woodhead.

A word of caution

Please only use our facility if you are sure the person you are looking for would either welcome your search or wouldn't mind you doing so. The Trace facility is a powerful method of finding someone and you shouldn't use it if you know that the person you are trying to find does not want to be found by you.

We understand that some situations are extremely complex and delicate, but we cannot help people who want to use our service in order to cause harm to other people.

Trace Update

We have recently re-configured Trace to run faster by streamlining the page. Just because you can longer see the person you requested to be Traced in the top table does not mean that they are no longer showing in Google - quite the opposite - the page you have created for the missing person is still accessible by you and Google at the bottom of the page under the name of the person you are trying to Trace.

It may take anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days for Google to index each new Trace request, which it needs to do in order for it then to show in Google's results, so please be patient.

Please do NOT register the same missing person twice - this is bad for you, the system, other users and our administrator. We create a unique page for each missing person with their name in the address (URL). If you register a person twice it annoys Google who do not like duplicate content. This affects not only your Trace request negatively (Google might not index either of your Trace pages) but it also impacts on the whole Trace system and therefore other users. As a result, we have to waste our administrator's time deleting these double entries.

Remember - do NOT register the same missing person twice. If you do this by mistake, or if you wanted to write a fuller explanation, you can always delete one of them using the delete button on the right hand side of the Trace request.

I am trying to trace a female friend of mine who left the UK for Mauritius in the mid 70's. Her name at the time was Margaret Gardner.
