Quit Victoria Tries Something New & Innovative!! (1991)

Link: to Article  Just found this very interesting article below from 1991.
What a great idea for 1991. But imagine if we used the internet to do this type of event now. Well I can tell you in Canada they have been doing such things for 10 years now & last year had over 38,000 smokers participate.
If only Quit Vic were not so "cautious" (word used to me in recent corrspondence) to try this type of thing now. ".... these type of events overseas have yet to be evaluated"
I think it is no wonder that Victoria, once known as the world leader in innovative campaigns has fallen behind other states now.  I wonder where the buck stops?

"The following year, in March 1991, the Quit campaign once again capitalised on real-world publicity, this time the landmark Federal Court ruling that passive smoking causes lung cancer, asthma attacks and respiratory disease. The Quit and Win workplace campaign was launched just three weeks after the release of Justice Morling's decision (Federal Court of Australia, 1991). Information was sent to every WorkCare*-registered workplace in the State, outlining the evidence on passive smoking and disease, promoting the VSHP's smokefree policy, resources and advisory services and workplace-based Quit courses, and inviting them to obtain a kit to provide their workers with Quit resources and entry forms for a competition. A Club Med holiday was offered to the winning successful quitter, and a Hyatt Coolum holiday for their supporter.

The direct-mail campaign was supported by radio advertisements on spoken-word programs, alerting employers to the campaign and informing them that smokefree workplaces were now 'the norm'. Advertisements encouraging workers to enter the competition were placed on popular music format stations. In addition a $46,000 buy was secured in the Herald-Sun newspaper (recently formed as the merger of the Herald and the Sun News-Pictorial), promoting the competition and helplines for Quit resources.

Over 8000 organisations participated and resources were distributed to over 250,000 people."

PS. I wonder how long it will take Quit to remove it when I bring it to their notice?
