The Smoko for non-smokers and Smokers

After all the commotion last week about "banning the smoko" we at Quitober have come up with a more conciliatory approach to the problem of the "smoko".

The problem does not seem to be the smoking as such but the boss's time that smokers are being accused of squandering.

This is 2010 not 1910. I would have thought the employer - employee relationship has progressed to the point where productivity, quality & employee health & safety are far more important than the precious few minutes spent smoking.

So let's get the story straight we are either talking about draconian rules or health and safety issues here & I think it is the latter.

Having worked this out let's see if we can get equal rights for both smokers & non-smokers alike. Regarding having a break from working on a problem in the workplace maybe it is time that we all realised that productivity & quality improves with a quick 10 min break every 60-90 minutes. Surely there is enough research out there to prove this.

Maybe it is time that all workers were give this "smoko" break. I am sure all employees would at least like that option & we now just need to work on the employers.

Ok, so what do we call this "smoko" break for all employees?

Hmmmm...? that is a tough one. Well a lot of employees already do it as a coffee break or a march to the water cooler break.

Maybe you could add a few names of your own to this all inclusive break for all employees & even their bosses.

Now isn't that a much better way to treat each other.
