In Want of Beauty

Posted by Christopher Leibow

In want of beauty
In want of beauty you walk
in and out of a row of aspens
in between shadow and fading sunlight
write small poems in an exaggerated
hand, rewrite the movements
of pronouns; ‘‘I' ‘you' ‘we'
In want of beauty you talk to her
in small sentences dressed in
autumn or falling vowels - tie her
breath around your waist to gird
your desire for the coming
again of her
In want of beauty you press
your hands against your eyes,
the evening has become
unnecessarily quiet.
