The Literate Luddite

Posted by Bern Marcowitz

Bern Marcowitz

I care for books made of paper, and I am mildly obsessed with convincing others to take care of their books and ephemera.

A light blog of my Romanian name will bring up on the screen some of these articles.

And "The Care and Feeding of Books Old and New" is still available from me, and will be reprinted soon.

This time we must thoroughly dot our O's to create the next letter of the alphabet.

Among the Eastern Khans we may still remember Genghis and Kublai. But when do we celebrate the family's Saviour of the West?:
To solve global problems Khan Ögedei
resorted to boozing: one jug a day.
He thought one more wouldn't hold his grand tour up.
— A most proper way to save Europe!

In Want of Beauty

In want of beauty
In want of beauty you walk
in and out of a row of aspens
in between shadow and fading sunlight
write small poems in an exaggerated
hand, rewrite the movements
of pronouns; ‘‘I' ‘you' ‘we'
In want of beauty you talk to her
in small sentences dressed in
autumn or falling vowels - tie her
breath around your waist to gird
your desire for the coming
again of her
In want of beauty you press

Slowly, I am working on an invention to utilize solar energy in a new way. It is hard to make a large scale invention without a work shop.  It has been pretty fun so far.

Foreclosure Moratorium - Will it Work

Posted by Kim Jaros

With a number of banks stating they will halt foreclosures, it remains to be seen if the housing market will start to recover.  It's basically a legal nightmare but  at the very least the fraudulent players have been exposed, new policy is set to be written and hopefully a very good lesson learned for all.

OK, so I have neglected this place for a while. I shall make it up by doubling the quota to two verses celebrating the letter O:

For a person no longer fiddling:

«At last I may record a voice track!»
exclaimed David Oistrakh.
«There are parts of Songs taught me by my mum
that I have always wanted to hum.»

But this one is still alive and kicking:

«You know I can't take so much blah, ma,»
mused an

THE ROAD TO PUBLICATION...

  • 01/10/10 Update

Recently Davie suggested I submit a treatment / synopsis to Penguin, who are opening their doors to new writers till the end of October i.e. they'll accept unsolicited manuscripts. He did this even though it would effectively shut him out of his online promotion campaign for THE TREASURES OF DRUMORY that we originally planned to run alongside the launch of this novel.

Since then,

The wonders of HR

Posted by Kevin Hunter

Kevin Hunter

So I made my decision and below is the letter I sent to the companies HR department over the weekend after simmering about how mad it has made me. This is a company which makes many claims about the people it employs and the ethics around that policy. Maybe I shouldn't do this but I really don't see why I should put up with this. See what you think...

It's the people who work with us who make us

Who I am looking for... Carl Kerr

Posted by Kim

Kim

I wish to find some old friends.

Carl Kerr or Kevin Kerr, his brother; who lived on Laguna Shores Road, in Flour Bluff, Texas, by Corpus Christi.

Carl's middle name may be Alan.  He was my best friend & Kevin was good friends with my sister, Deidre Gail Thigpen.  We swam in the canal behind their house in 1969~1970.
