Posted by Andrew Luke

Mark Lizar, Identity & Information Researcher, has been looking at mapping CCTVs in the UK. In a pilot study of 10 London? councils, six have provided information on their CCTV operations, two have provided misleading information and one has refused to provide detauks. Four of the six who obliging councils have since included details about their CCTV operations on their websites. For aggregating

Much of this session was informed by Nick Burch. Breadcrumb-traces for maps by Nick cycling aroun Oxford on his bike, has formed part of the city's complete geomapping.  (Some rather good photographs here) He tells us that a variety of map editors are used including the Flash based Potlatch, and the Java-based JOSM

Nick mentioned that someone had created a geo-mapped database of phoneboxes with

Barcamp: Wikis and Collaboration

Posted by Andrew Luke

Presented and powered by Developer Oleg Lavrovsky, this quite generated feedback and were one of my favourite sessions of the day. A few of the pros and cons of wiki-ing - revision, pulling in content from around so that no-one person was left doing the job. Also there were issues of control in contribution - the taking up of time of the System Adminstrator. Oleg highlightd different approaches,...

BarcampOxford - Facebook?

Or 'Facebook is shit', or 'Destroy Facebook'. I can't recall, as I glanced at the open grid schedule and raced so as not to miss the first session. A lot of level-headed roundtable discussion were everyone contributed. Issues of privacy were considered in relation to different perspectives between New Media types and less experienced content suppliers. Someone suggested that an understanding of

Barcamp Apache Oxford

5th April, I attended Barcamp Apache Oxford - a concept I'd heard about from Matt Badham and Pete Ashton, and an event which I'd heard about 5 days before from Damian Cugley, and began investigating on the Friday afternoon. I'm going to try to break this down over a few posts to record what I learnt that weekend.

A barcamp "is an international network of user generated...

No Barcodes: The Hobbyists Spotted As A UK Industry

A culmination of six months of promotion. A small collective of mini-comics creators break free from inadequate exhibition costs at major comics conventions and hold a festival of their own at Camden Market. Forty-eight cartoonists, no doors, no barcodes, no entrance price.

4:46pm I've wandered off, on my own in a happy space for a cigarette. Opposite the massage parlour, outside the robot

I like to hoard stuff. Papers mostly and card. At odds with my wish to live minimally, a burden of an artist dear. However clutter is not. Are these things clutter ?

Comics and 24 Hour Reviews

Posted by Andrew Luke

Andrew Luke

The backlog of mini-comics was building. Self-publishing cartoonists that make up the back-bone of the British comics arts industry. So with one of their bigger opportunities to promote their works coming to Camden Market next Saturday , I felt I should do some mad attention-grabbing promotion.

The plan was to review 24 comic books in 24 hours on the 24th May. Bonkers I know.

Well, I failed quite

I ordinarily have my comic published on a Sunday evening by Comics Village. Unfortunately last weekend the site appears to have been subject to a sustained and aggressive hacking. As a result, a number of my pieces have been lost indefinitely. I wish all at CV a speedy recovery. The original writing and opinion that appeared on the site was a boon to the UK comics journalism audience and its sad

Trying to find my daughter's father

Posted by Susan West

Susan West

My daughter desperately wants to meet her father.  She is 23 years old and a beautiful girl.  She has never met him.  Has anyone heard of him.  His name is Ibrahim Mezdawi (Mizdawi).  His brother is a famout singer from Libya.  Even if we could have his brother's address or email, then we could contact him.

Thank you.
