- The world's fastest car is the American Shelby SuperCars Ultimate Aero TT. Officially the fastest car in the world, Guinness World Records ratified its 256mph top speed on a closed section of Washington's Highway 221 in October 2007. Its theoretical maximum speed is over 270mph. Only 25 SSC Aero's are being built in total and they are less than half the price of a Bugatti Veyron. The Aero is rear-wheel drive only, with a 6.2-litre V8 engine with twin-turbochargers in the back producing 1,183bhp and 1,094 lb/ft of torque, allowing it to do 0-60mph in 2.78 seconds.
