* Born and raised in Munich, Germany, where I lived until I turned 20. One son in Sweden (Bård Ericson, born in 1991), two sons living with me (Martin, born 2002, and Mathias, born 2004). I have Norwegian citizenship. * I have lived in different places in 4 countries: GERMANY: München and Heidelberg; USA: Santa Barbara (CA), Bethel and Alakanuk (AK), SWEDEN: mountain cabins in Lappland (Abiskojaure, Kårsavagge, Unna Allakas); NORWAY: Bodø, Narvik, Tromsø, Oslo, Hvitsten, Spydeberg, Notodden, Lillestrøm. * Studies at the University of Heidelberg (1977-1983). Later also studies in Norway (University of Tromsø 1985/1986) and University of Oslo 1997), as well as in the USA (University of California, Santa Barbara1985-1990). * Academic education in a variety of subjects: social and physical anthropology, sociology, philosophy, Major interests: evolutionary biology/psychology, culture theory, ethnicity and ethnocentrism, race and racism, indigenous peoples (especially circumpolar populations such as Sami, Inuit, Yupik. * Anthropological fieldwork among Yupik Eskimos in Alaska (1992). * Since 1986, I have had various academic jobs and teaching positions in the USA (UCSB), Germany (Univ. of Heidelberg) and Norway (UiO, HiOA, UiTø, HiT) * Over 20 seasons in Lappland as a cabin warden for the Swedish Touring Club (STF) - 1984-2007.
The universe is utterly incomprehensible, a lot is breathtakingly beautiful, and I will always try hard to figure out how to do the right thing before I die.
