About Me

Brandy Maddox is a songstress that exudes raw emotion with wisdom beyond her years. With a voice that is described as Pop, Brandy Maddox is a passionate vocalist. She understands that music has the ability to change the world. “My music is about love. I think love is the most important thing in the world. Love is my religion” said Brandy Maddox. Born the daughter of a Southern Baptist Preacher, Brandy Maddox started singing in the church choir at the tender age of 5. She was intrigued by her Aunts who would frequently sing back up for Whitney Houston, Bobby Jones and John P. Key. It was tagging along to rehearsals that birthed her passion for music. Brandy Maddox was born in the small town of Shelby, North Carolina. In 2008, Forbes magazine named Shelby the third most vulnerable city in America because of the high unemployment rate, poverty rate and lack of economical growth but Miss Maddox had the ability to dream big. Brandy Maddox once said, “Growing up in a small town, music was the vehicle that I used to travel and see the world. I’ve always felt I could sing myself anywhere.” In 2006, after completing a staged play tour entitled Cheaters starring Brian Mcknight, Brandy Maddox started singing and recording under the alias Gypsy Purl. In 2010, she completed her debut album Gypsy Purl's Destiny. Destiny is available through itunes, emusic and napster just to name a few. Brandy states that “Destiny is about living your dreams, It’s about overcoming fear.” With lyrics like “I’m on the road, destination unknown” the listener is hopelessly captured in the moment and forced to surrender to the notion that we all are free beings. Gypsy Purl performed her controversial single Make the Money at the Multicultural Motion Picture Association’s Diversity Awards Show where she received rave reviews. In 2011, Gypsy Purl ventured out on a club tour throughout the states that resulted in a barrage of devoted fans. Gypsy Purl played at the Legendary Key Club opening up for Snoop Dog and Ray J to name a few In July 2012, for reasons unknown, Brandy denounced her stagename Gypsy Purl and adopted her birthname Brandy Maddox.
