Mario Abelend was born in the neighborhood of Cerro, in Havana, Cuba, on February 27, 1949, of Cuban parents. His father, Mr. Mario T. Abelend, was born in Havana, Cuba on June 10th, 1912; died a proud U.S. citizen, in Miami, FL, on March 16th, 2003. Mario's paternal grandmother, Miss Concepción Martin, was born in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucía, Spain. Mario's paternal grandfather, Mr. Juan Abelend, a naturalized Cuban citizen, was born in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain; Juan's father was French. Mario's mother, Julia Ondina Abelend née González Delgado, was born in Unión de Reyes, Matanzas, on October 3rd, 1919. Mario's maternal grandparents -José González and Julia Delgado -, were both born in Cuba, but their parents had immigrated to Cuba from the Canary Islands (Spain). Mario was baptized at the Church of Jesus of the Mount in Santos Suárez, Havana. Mario took his first communion at the Salesian Church of St. John Bosco, in Víbora, Havana. Received the sacrament of confirmation at the Parish Church of Our Lady of Monserrat (Centro-Habana, Havana) from Bishop Fernando Azcárate, S.J. (R.I.P.) Mario was a regular choir member at the Sacred Heart Parish Church of Vedado and Carmelo - a Dominican Friars'Church-(Vedado, Havana), Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Church (Centro-Habana, Havana, a Carmelite friars' church), at the Saint John Lateran Church - a Dominican Friars'Church - (Vedado, Havana), and at the Salesian Church of St. John Bosco (Old Havana, Havana). He was an occasional guest singer at liturgical activities with the choirs of the Parish Church of Christ the King (Ayesterán, Havana), and Our Lady of Charity (Centro-Habana, Havana). Mario was an active member of the youth and young adult groups at Saint John Lateran Church - a Dominican Friars'Church - (Vedado, Havana) and Mary Help of Christians Church - a Salesian church -, as well as an active member with the parishioners's assembly at Saint John Lateran. He was also a regular participant in the youth groups of the vicariate regions of Vedado and Centro-Habana, in Havana. Mario, and Figranda ("Yandy") Gacasan -born in Cebu City, Philippines, on September 17, 1962- concelebrated the sacrament of matrimony at the Parish Church of St. John Bosco (St.Jean-Bosco) in Paris, on May 20th 1992, in the presence of Salesian priests Father René Corre, S.D.B, who was then the Pastor of said church, and former pastor Father Jean-Yves Le Duff, S.D.B., Mario's friend since 1980. Both priests are currently living at separate homes for retired elderly priests. Mario, holds a Master's Degree in German Studies of the University of Havana and was issued an Advanced Diploma in Modern French Studies [Diplôme Supérieur d'Études Français Modernes]by the Alliance Française de Paris, and holds a Proficiency Diploma in the Portuguese Language issued by the Abraham Lincoln School of Languages, in Havana, Cuba. He has worked as a translator and as a school-book editor of Spanish as a Foreign Language. He is currently the Owner and Manager of Eiffel Linguistic Services, and works, both as a translator and telephonic interpreter from his home office, as well as an on-site interpreter. Yandy Abelend - Mario's wife- is the General Manager at Boston Market Restaurant in Hollywood, County of Broward, FL. Mario and Yandy are both U.S. citizens and they are currently registered parishioners at St. Bartholomew Church, in Miramar, County of Broward, FL. They share their home in the City of Miami Gardens, County of Miami-Dade, FL, just a few minutes south of the Miami-Dade-Broward County border, with Ms. Julia Abelend née González, Mario's mother. Mario is a moderate conservative, following the line of European main-stream conservative parties, and is a firm Anti-communist and a strong supporter of the Western, democratic civilization.
